In the book "Bearing Witness: Partition, Independence, End of the Raj", author Sukeshi Kamra analyzes various factors that contributed to the Partition holocaust in Punjab. One major factor was the onslaught of refugees arriving in their thousands to the city or town mohallas of West and East Punjab. Their hysterical tales drove ordinary men to seek revenge for their sufferings at the hands of the suddenly 'other'.
