In her book "The Partitions of Memory: The Afterlife of the division of India", author Suvir Kaul writes about the struggles that the refugees pouring into East Punjab were going through. The book has a collection of letters that refugees were writing to the authorities to get help finding their lost family members, getting help in getting property or land allotted to them and for various other needs.
