Refugee Camps in East Punjab
There were about 45 refugee camps setup in East Punjab each housing about 50,000 to 70,000 refugees. The largest of them was in Kurukshetra which became a huge tented city housing around 300,000 refugees. Most of the refugees were from Multan and Sheikhupura area of West Punjab. This camp was finally disbanded in April, 1950.
