It was on Wednesday, April 9, 1947, that The Tribune had a banner headline “Proposed Partition of Punjab and Bengal”; another one, “Maharaja of Patiala Urges the Princes to Join Constituent Assembly.” Even then, there was hope. On April 21, the banner headline read: “No Partition of Indian Now”.
