Hamboki, Gujranwala
In the village of Hamboki (also spelled as Hamboke), Gujranwala, a Sikh schoolteacher chose to stay behind after Partition, the only member of his community to remain. The villagers he had taught and lived among turned on him, and he was murdered. Seven decades later, his granddaughter returned to walk the streets where her family once lived. She met the descendants of those same villagers, stood where her grandfather had stood, and traced the outline of a life violently erased. In her own words, she narrates the events of Partition and the weight of that homecoming.
